CUE really IS about community. I'm not referring to the organization, but to the amazing educators I have met and continue to interact with through my involvement in CUE. When I had car trouble as I was leaving for the Spring CUE Conference in Palm Springs, I reached out to fellow OCCUE board member Judy Blakeney. She was more than happy to give me a ride out to the conference. As we navigated bumper-to-bumper traffic, we shared stories and connected in a way that is usually not possible in a professional setting. I thoroughly enjoyed the drive in a way I would not have if I'd driven myself. Judy is a long-time educator, and like me, has seen many changes in the educational landscape over the years. But also like me, she has chosen to embrace change and remains in front of the curve. She is a champion of computer science and her positive attitude is infectious.

Many educators tell me that they do not have the time or money to attend conferences. Let's be honest, attending state and national conferences can be very expensive. There have been many years, including this one in which I have funded my own travel. Luckily, as a presenter, my registration for the Spring CUE Conference was free. In the past, I have volunteered in exchange for free registration. That’s what Judy and many others did this year.

For me, attending conferences, especially those focusing on edtech is what has kept me young and energized throughout my career. Even as I approach my official retirement date, I am on the lookout for new opportunities, not only to keep growing for myself but to share my passion for leveraging instructional technology tools and platforms to support teaching and learning. So I’m wondering:

What did you learn at Spring CUE? and if you weren’t there, no worries. What’s something new you learned this week?
